Works fine but unless you need it to show others what you are pointing too with your SkyScout it is unnecessary and just adds more weight and encumbers the SkyScout. The SkyScout isn't so precise that you need a laser to guide it. A laser like this would be a lot more useful on a telescope for quick alignment.
I love the SkyScout. You would be better off just wrapping a rubber band and sliding it on or off the button. As you screw it into the 1/4 20 hole in the SkyScout, the mount actually starts to warp.
It's perfect for curious minds that want to learn the night sky.BUT the Orion SkyLine Green Laser Pointer and Bracket is very disappointing. Very cheap. It's fun to use, but takes a little practice.
To get it reasonably snug, the mount gets distorted to the point that the laser is out of alignment with the mount itself. It looks "sexy," but the bracket is made out of plastic. (It looks like metal in the picture).
Also, the collar they supply to hold the laser button switch down is, frankly, dumb and unimaginative. Also, the collar they give you screws into the laser pen and actually scratches the finish.Bottom line: the laser pen is an excellent idea, but don't waste your money on this mount.
If you already own a Skyscout you might as well spend a little extra money to widen your experience stargazing. You no longer need to use your finger or tell your friends "no, not that one, the one next to it". The laser points exactly where you should be looking.The laser takes about 12 minutes out of the box to get sighted to the Skyscout. I love it.
The green laser light seems to go forever. It is an excellent enhancement to the Sky Scout for the identify mode.
